Saving costs and time
Client: A local building contractor
Canonbury Park South, London N1
Our minor design changes resulted in significant savings and ensured the underpinning was completed within the time allowed.
We were engaged by a local building contractor to underpin the perimeter and load bearing partition walls in the cellar of a detached Victorian villa. The purpose was to enable the floor level to be reduced to form full height habitable accommodation.
Working closely with the contractor we suggested some minor design modifications during the work which not only resulted in significant savings but also ensured that underpinning was completed within the time allowed for in the main contractor's programme.

As the cellar was not accessible from outside our team excavated an access pit and formed an opening in the wall below ground level so that spoil could be removed and concrete taken into the cellar without disturbing the occupants. Gantry hoists were used to raise the spoil up from the basement level which was then barrowed into skips and removed.
