Our complex piled raft construction gets NHBC approval
Client: A local developer

Purkelly designed and installed a piled raft solution in a restricted access development of 5 mews houses carrying the NHBC guarantee.

Albert Works, Crouch End

We were engaged directly by the developer on a project involving the construction of 5 mews houses on a former industrial site in North London.

A piled solution had been recommended by the engineer because there were large trees adjacent to the site which also slopes from back to front. The trees themselves posed potential future problems.

Purkelly undertook the design and construction of the complete foundation package which consisted of a reinforced concrete raft slab which incorporated beam strips to carry the heavy loads from the party walls. The raft slab was stepped in order to follow the natural slope of the site. Set on a bed of ‘Cellcore’ heave protection the piled raft slab was supported on auger bored piles which were sleeved sleeved for the top to 3 metres.

Our co-operative attitude allowed us and the main contractor to work together on site whilst they installed drainage and services. The installation was approved by an NHBC Inspector for the NHBC guarantees included with the houses.
